About
Who are you?
I currently live in Amsterdam with my wife and two kids (4 and 7), after some time in San Francisco, and most of my life in Paris (where I was born). I'm passionate about our industry, most especially about building high performing engineering organizations and the socio-technical aspects that come with it.
Photography is my main hobby in the minutes of free time I get outside of parenting and work.
What do you do for a living?
I founded Echoes HQ in 2021 after many years in engineering leadership positions. I was previously Deputy CTO at Veepee, where I structured an European-wide engineering organization of over 600 engineers. Before that I was leading the Docker open source project and dealing with the fascinating problem of dealing with a community of thousands as a team of 12 engineers.
What are you going to talk about at FlowCon?
I'm going to talk about my learnings as an engineering leader, and what success means for an engineering organization. We are quite obsessed with developer productivity as an industry, but is that truly our goal? I feel that there's a lot more to it!
What are you the proudest of?
My kids, obviously! In my career, I'm proud of having balanced my growth as a manager without losing my ability to get things done by myself. What speaker and/or topic would you like to see at FlowCon?
N/A
If you were an art piece, which one would it be?
Any of Bordalo II street art.
What's your favorite band, artist or song?
My favorite song is Echoes, by Pink Floyd (which happens to be our company name, what a coincidence!).
Sum up your session or workshop in only 1 sentence
We explore the challenges of defining and measuring engineering success in times where organizations are being pressured for results.
What are the 3 top takeaways from your session or workshop?
- Our industry's obsession with developer productivity is misguided.
- Engineering success takes a combination of alignment, delivery performance, and creating a favorable context for durable results.
- Practical tools to measure and communicate your organization's success.
